To make the motorcycle a serious adventure touring bike that could compete with well known motorcycles in the class including the BMW GS models and the Kawasaki KLR, the Yamaha R1 received extensive modifications including: r1 forum adapted and strengthened sub frame to attach the top and two side trunks: placed an aluminum box in the space below the tank for a spare chain; placed a small rack on the steering stem to store the GPS; Van Wylick strengthened the aluminum stay fairing on both sides with 3 mm thick aluminum plates; joined the mirror supports underneath the fairing screen with a thick strip of aluminum to prevent vibration from breaking them; installed modified (5 cm shorter) Laser exhaust pipe so the exhaust wont blow against the spare Metzeler tires; installed a Cyclelok alarm with trunk protection; installed a Hyperpro steering damper; use fully synthetic Putoline oil; installed K&N air filter; installed Osco chain oiler; installed Fuelstar between the ...

2nd Bangkok Motorbike Festival 2010 @ CentralWorld: Opening Ceremony
The official opening ceremony of the 2nd Bangkok Motorbike Festival 2010 took place on Thursday afternoon in the circular space adjoining the glass-and-steel lifts that whirr up and down the CentralWorld mall, with the stage and seating area bookended by a fanned-out line of tuned-up bikes presented by the Special Branch Police complete with bigger fairings, flashing lights and shiny aerials. Nattaboon and Nattapon Trinathy explained the concept and aims of the event, involved dignitaries were introduced and the 'button' ceremonially pressed by the full group on stage to kick off the impending three-and-a-half days of activities. The usual array of Bangkok's celebrities, actors, actresses, DJs and TV presenters were in attendance, along with police chiefs and other VIPs. To tie in with the event a special bike tour came down from city of Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand: the Northern Activity Trip as it was dubbed, included motorcycle journalists from Japan and the USA and aimed to promote Thailand to the world, with the participants making the 1000 km trip over five days. The 'western' members were are stereotype long-distant biker riders: big, capable and tough-looking.
